Musovski had rarely started and not scored in 25 MLS appearances before beginning his torrid stretch with a May 12 winner at Dallas, the start of a five-game unbeaten (4-0-1) run. He becomes the fourth Sounder to score in five straight outings. Albert Rusnak's second-half brace is the difference at Houston.

Huskies Claim First NCAA Crown in Dramatic Fashion
December 15, 2025
Harrison Bertos bangs home the golden goal in the second minute of overtime to lift Washington to its first NCAA championship, 3-2, over crowd favorite NC State in Cary, N.C. The Huskies never trail after Zach Ramsey's opener, an empty-net goal from outside the box with 1:12 left in the first half. Richie Aman spots Joe Dale in the 62nd minute for a short-lived 2-0 lead. The Wolfpack, with most of the 10,316 shivering (28 degrees) fans behind them, answers four minutes later. They force overtime at 86:32 through Taig Healy. UW presses forward to start the extra period, with Aman sparking a four-touch sequence in the box involving Charlie Kosakoff and Egor Akulov, who finds Bertos 4 yards outside the left post. It's the sixth straight upset win while traveling over 10,000 miles with 21 days on the road since Nov. 18. Ramsey, who also scored in the semifinal, is named the tournament's outstanding offensive player and keeper Jadon Bowton, with five saves, earns defensive honors.
Citowicki Succeeds Shulenberger at WSU

The Cougars will return to a reformed Pac-12 Conference in 2026.
Men in Blazers host Roger Bennett on Seattle soccer culture
There are so many incredible footballing cities in this nation. But in terms of the football culture, the football history, the deep-rooted, longtime passion for their club, their team, no fan base, no football culture connects to the history of football in this nation like yours, Seattle.
Reign's Biyendolo Reveals Pregnancy
October 25, 2025
Seattle Reign and USWNT forward Lynn Biyendolo announces that she and husband Marley are expecting their first child. The NWSL all-time leading goal scorer across all competitions and four-time league champion, Biyendolo last played for the Reign on Aug. 24. She scored two goals in 13 appearances.
Huskies Rally to Down Oregon State
November 20, 2025
Richie Aman finds a sliver of an opening to score an unlikely golden goal in a 3-2 comeback win for Washington at Oregon State to begin NCAA tournament play. After agonizing over whether it would receive an at-large bid earlier in the week, UW trails OSU 2-1 after 77 minutes. But Connor Lofy ties it in the 85th minute, and Aman dribbles into the left side of the box and scores from an acute angle 13:27 into sudden death. It snaps a three-game losing streak for the Huskies.
Egypt, Iran Complain About Seattle Pride Match
December 10, 2025
Federations for Egypt and Iran, two Middle East nations that target gays and lesbians, complain to FIFA over their 2026 World Cup match in Seattle that is planned to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride. The site and date for the Group G Egypt-Iran match is June 26, which local organizers say will include a “once-in-a-lifetime moment to showcase and celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities in Washington.” All such events will occur outside the stadium. Seattle's PrideFest has been held since 2007.
Dickey Earns Share of Shutout Markq
October 5, 2025
Claudia Dickey makes five saves in a 0-0 draw at Gotham to bring the Seattle Reign closer to clinching a playoff berth. Dickey's career-best seventh shutout of the year is also the 13th of her career, tying her with Phallon Tullis-Joyce atop the club record book. The draw is part of five-game unbeaten (2-0-3) run to finish the regular season.
UW Rebounds to Win Six Straight
October 24, 2025
Charlie Kosakoff's brace plus two assists from Zach Ramsey fuel Washington's 5-0 home drubbing of Ohio State. Jadon Bowton makes a season-high seven saves. It's the Huskies' sixth win in a row following a 1-2-2 start. During the streak, UW outscores foes 15-1 and sets up an Oct. 31 showdown at Maryland, with the winner likely getting the Big Ten regular season crown.
Sounders' 2026 Schedule Impacted by World Cup
November 20, 2025
With Lumen Field undergoing a grass installation, hosting six World Cup matches and then replacing the grass with turf, the Sounders' 2026 schedule is unlike any before. Following the home opener vs. Colorado they take a five-game road trip – their longest ever. The Sounders return home to the grass field for six of the next seven games and ultimately take a 52-day World Cup break. Seattle hosts Portland July 16, then must leave for the turf installation prior to the Seahawks' preseason.
Tsukanome Sets Defiance Scoring Mark
September 17, 2025
Yu Tsukanome scores his 18th goal of the season across all competitions, setting a Tacoma Defiance/S2 season record, in a 2-1 home win over Houston. Leo Burney also scores, and Sounders Academy keeper Noah Newman makes seven saves in the Defiance's first win since Aug. 10, snapping a five-game losing streak. Tsukanome's 17' goal is his 15th of MLS Next Pro season, tying Braudilio Rodrigues’s total in 2023.
I want to be a part of this growing club as much as I possibly can. I feel like I have still so much to give. I gave all I could on the field. And the next chapter for me is to continue that fight in whatever it looks like, and I've been so fortunate that this club will allow that and wants that and sees that – we’re aligned on that.
— Lauren Barnes on her future following her retirement from playing 13 years for Seattle Reign FC
There’s not a lot of teams in MLS that have an atmosphere like this. So, whenever other teams come and see it, it’s impressive. They don’t expect it from an MLS team. I’m proud of the fans, and I’m excited to be around those fans.
— Sounders forward Jesús Ferreira on the weekday afternoon turnout of 51,636 for the Club World Cup match vs. Atletico Madrid
We proved that we are right there. We’re not there, but we’re close. A lot of people on the outside had already counted us out, thought it was going to be 6-0 loss or something like that. We were able to battle them and keep them humble.
— Sounders defender Jon Bell on being competitive in 2-0 Club World Cup loss to UEFA champion Paris Saint-Germain
The (Local Organizing Committee) has a strong relationship with FIFA, the White House World Cup Task Force, and law enforcement, and we are confident the matches will proceed in Seattle as planned.
— Seattle Sports Commission Pres./CEO Beth Knox responding to President Trump's threats to move Seattle FWC games over unfounded claims it is unsafe
If we're talking about the best coaches to ever come through Seattle — if we're discussing who can win every kind of title with every kind of roster — then Brian Schmetzer needs to be in the discussion. Actually, he might have to lead the discussion...Soccer might not be as big around here as some other sports, but great coaching is great coaching. And if we're going based on accomplishments in that field in the Emerald City, Schmetzer just may be the best.
— Seattle Times columnist Matt Calkins on Brian Schmetzer's stature in Seattle Sports after the Sounders' Leagues Cup victory over Miami
The radio really misses out on spatial aspects of the game. Where’s the ball? Where’s the player? So what we’ve done is we’ve scaled that touch-base experience so that it can be both intuitive but also independent, so that fans can experience the game on their own without having to rely on a friend or a family member to describe the game to them.
— Antyush Bollini, COO of Seattle developer OneCourt, which created technology for a “tactile broadcast” for sight-impaired fans
It’s a huge honor to have my name on that list of great players. Being a kid growing up here, being a fan of the team, going through the academy, sitting in the stands knowing I wanted to be on the field someday to now is a huge honor. It means everything to me to play for this club and to have my name in the history books is a really special moment.
— Jordan Morris on becoming the Sounders' career scoring leader with 87 goals in a 5-2 win over LAFC on March 8, 2025
(For River Plate-Urawa Reds) there weren’t a ton of people there, but this is honestly what makes this tournament potentially special. Both teams’ supporters showed up in strong numbers and were about as loud as any I can remember...I was particularly awed by the Urawa supporters who were singing, chanting and moving for virtually the entire 90 minutes. Every song seemed to have a different set of coordinated hand and arm gestures to go along with it...The Sounders’ first game against Botafogo was the rough equivalent of a normal MLS game in terms of raw numbers, but it seemed so much louder.
— Jeremiah Oshan of Sounder at Heart on the Club World Cup atmosphere
The thing that we've always advocated for here is that we're people first. We care about everybody that's here. We want them to feel like this is their place, their family, their club...Having ownership that are U.S.-based, Seattle-based in regards to how we operate every day, I think it's enabled us to really push that on.
— Reign coach Laura Harvey on how the club's culture returns to solid footing following the purchase from OL Groupe
I like pressure. It’s why we play, for big moments like this. I was really grateful that Schmetzer put that pressure on me, and he looks like a smart guy now.
— Sounders' Paul Rothrock, after starring and scoring in the Leagues Cup final win over Miami
From day one, Seattle has been a beacon of sense and sustainability in a league with regulations that deter the latter...Seattle is the prototype here. No one else has figured out how to thrive in this soil quite like they have. And if the Sounders are indeed hopelessly outgunned at the CWC, that reflects as much or more on their league as it does their team, and the scale of the work still to be done in North American soccer over the coming decades.
— MLS writer Charles Boehm on the Sounders being one of two league representatives in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
It’s clear (FIFA) is taking advantage of the generally temperate weather in the Pacific Northwest and the chance for games to be in prime-time hours for most of Europe. Three of the four group-stage matches set to take place at Lumen Field — known as Seattle Stadium for the tournament — will kick off at noon, with the fourth match set to start at 8 p.m. locally.
— Tim Booth of The Seattle Times commenting on Seattle's 2026 World Cup matches
We are trying to be a representation of who the people are in Spokane. It’s a very blue-collar city for the most part. When they come and watch us, they want to see something entertaining.
— Spokane Velocity coach Leigh Veidman on what drives the club
We’ve hosted some big events here — the MLS Cups, the CONCACAF Champions League final. These types of events really show the class, the deep roots that we have with soccer in this community. The fans were excited. There were some Atlético fans there as well that helped the energy in the building. But overall, Seattle soccer fans show up, and I appreciate that, being a guy that was born and raised here. The building was rocking today.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer following his team's Club World Cup match vs. Atletico Madrid
More than 35% of respondents (to a Sounder at Heart poll) answered that they’d 'likely stop attending games.' Just 22% said they were 'open-minded' about a new stadium and a paltry 4% essentially said they would attend games no matter where a new stadium gets built.
— Jeremiah Oshan on Sounder at Heart's poll showing support of a Sounders stadium in Renton as tepid at best
This is a special club. I know you guys wanted some summer signings, but we signed Osaze (De Rosario) and Snyder Brunell. Osaze scored against Miami tonight. Another (Tacoma) Defiance player Georgi (Minoungou) drew the PK. I’m from Defiance. This is a group of good human beings who work hard and play for each other and I’m really proud our method won out tonight. That’s a special, special game for the Sounders.
— Sounders winger Paul Rothrock characterizing some of Sounders' key players in Leagues Cup final win over Miami
The Sounders played really well for the group that they got drawn...I thought the guys played well for the teams that we had to play against. We were playing with arguably one of the best from South America, Atlético, who is always in the running with some of the best teams in Europe and PSG being the reigning best right now.
— Sounders fan Austin Woodland on Seattle proving competitive in the Club World Cup
You could say arguably against both Botafogo and Atlético he was the best player on the field.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer on Cristian Roldan's acclaimed Club World Cup performance
This has to be rock bottom so far this year. Brian (Schmetzer, coach) talked about it in the postgame, but things have to change, things have to shift, mindsets have to be better.
— Paul Rothrock after the injury-riddled Sounders slump to 1-3-3 following a 3-0 loss at San Diego early in 2025
There’s not a lot of teams in MLS that have an atmosphere like this. So whenever other teams come and see it, it’s impressive. They don’t expect it from an MLS team.
— Sounders forward Jesus Ferreira after Seattle’s 3-1 home defeat to Atletico Madrid in 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
I thought we were going to have to beat the best team in the final...Our guys did it, they were brilliant. Going into overtime, instead of hanging their heads, they knew there was one moment left to win and they executed. I'm proud, excited, and while it may not sound like it, I'm speechless.
— UW coach Jamie Clark on his team's NCAA championship win over N.C. State
I am truly overjoyed. This is my dream come true. I grew up here, on Lummi and in town on our ancestral land, playing and running around, kicking a soccer ball. This is a dream to have a soccer (field) in my backyard and now you guys do.
— Lummi Nation Tribal member Temryss Lane at the Oct. 14, 2025, opening of two miniature pitches built by SEA2026 and the RAVE Foundation
If these tournaments were designed to give fans a veritable buffet of club and international competition, the early signs are that there is a point where U.S. spectators push themselves away from the table and say, "I've had enough."
— Jeff Carlisle, ESPN reporter, on lukewarm response from U.S. fans for Club World Cup high ticket prices
It was a huge magnet. And it happened to be in an area that's really important to our sporting lore in the city with the other athletic venues that were so close in that two or three block radius starting at the turn of the 20th century.
— Seattle sports historian David Eskenazi describing Memorial Stadium's vital role in the city
She kind of just said something like, ‘How can I be sad? How can I be upset when so much good is going on around me?’ So many people are binding together for her, so many people are doing such good things. She was literally just telling us, like, ‘How could I be upset? I have so much to live for.’
— UW senior Kelsey Branson relating how Mia Hamant's positivity in 2025 influenced Huskies' togetherness and spirit
Sometimes in soccer, it can change so fast, whether negatively or positively, and this is a moment in time where it has changed drastically in a positive way for me. I'm riding the wave. I'm enjoying the moment, I'm taking advantage of the moment, and hopefully I can ride this high into the World Cup.
— Sounders' Cristian Roldan reflecting on how his Club World Cup and Leagues Cup play earned his 2025 USMNT recall
A thoroughly entertaining match that featured the Sounders absolutely shutting down a team of global superstars with a bunch of homegrown talent and castoffs from other teams, while missing some of their own biggest stars. Despite the seemingly obvious talent gap, the Sounders never looked remotely intimidated. From the opening whistle they played their game, gave Miami everything they could handle and came up big when they needed it most.
— Jeremiah Oshan of Sounder at Heart summarizing the 2025 Leagues Cup final
They’ve faced the reigning Copa Libertadores champions. They’ve faced a perennial contender in Spanish and European competition. They’ve done it all while missing their best defender and top goal-scorer. Although the Sounders have not yet secured a point, they’ve at least remained competitive. PSG’s roster is collectively worth more than $1 billion and they have 10 players who are each worth more than the Sounders’ entire roster.
— Jeremiah Oshan, Sounder at Heart, on the Sounders playing minnow to global powerhouses during the 2025 Club World Cup
These types of events really show the class, the deep roots that we have with soccer in this community. Overall, Seattle soccer fans show up. The thing that our players learned is the intensity is just a little notch higher.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer on his team's heightened level of play and fan support during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
The players showed courage. At the end of the day, the players played to win.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer on his team's performance in a 3-1 Club World Cup loss to Atletico Madrid
In a very short period of time, they’ve made a ton of progress and the energy around the club is really incredible. I’m most excited to see the progress they’ve made with bringing in new sponsors and partners who are committed to the cause and community and will help elevate their connectivity with local fans. Seeing their progress on the sports side, they’ve made the club competitive.
— NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman on Seattle Reign's resurgence under new ownership in 2025
If this tournament showed us anything, it’s that it's a more level playing field than people probably would have thought. I think that distance is closing for sure.
— Sounders midfielder Paul Rothrock on Seattle's competitive Club World Cup performance
I don't think you have many players anywhere in the world who are such servants to their nation. She plays in Seattle. That flight is terrible, terrible, and she's never turned down Wales...Whenever she chooses to call it a day, she has demonstrated what it is to be a proud Welsh woman who will give everything to her country and to her team.
— Wales manager Rhian Wilkinson praising his captain, Jess Fishlock, at the 2025 Euros
Aligning with the global calendar isn’t just about changing dates, it’s about unlocking our full potential. From a soccer standpoint, this move makes a lot of sense. Aligning with the global football calendar brings us closer to the rhythm of the word’s game — the transfer windows, player development cycles and international competition that shapes how clubs operate internationally. It’s going to help us recruit, retain talent and build more competitive rosters year around.
— Sounders GM Craig Waibel on the MLS calendar shift coming in 2027
I wrote this book for anyone who loves women's soccer, but the real target audience are girls who are like whom I was when I was a teenager–the girls who love to play soccer and/or who are huge fans of the USWNT and the NWSL. As a girl this book would have been the most important book in my library, and I really believe this book can hold a lot of meaning for many young girls and women.
— Clelia Castro-Malaspina Gore, Mercer Island author of the women's soccer history book 'Girls with Goals'
It's the pursuit of winning that has value. Sports is a platform for learning life lessons. It's an opportunity to deal with big emotions, it's an opportunity to be a good guy and treat someone well (a teammate for example) even when they let a goal in or make a mistake.
— 2024 National Recreation Coach of the Year recipient Tom Powers on helping people see a different value in sports beyond winning
I was a fan of the team for so long, and when I went to that first MLS game, just the energy and the atmosphere, I knew I wanted to be on that field someday.
— Jordan Morris telling the 2025 Eras of Legends audience about his drive to play for his hometown team, the Sounders
He’s what we need. We need players with confidence, with some belief, with a little bit of competitiveness. Cristian is an example of how if you want to build your perfect player, he has a little bit of everything. Off and on the field, that’s what we find.
— USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, following 2-1 win over Australia in 2025, on Cristian Roldan's two assists and increasingly influential team role
In 2013, I probably had eight different jobs, with soccer being your No. 1, so just seeing that these players now can just focus on football and not have to worry about anything else is the overall goal that I've always wanted to see in football. And it's close, it's getting there...I'm also so proud that we built that so this next generation can be a part of that, and you know, that's just as fulfilling for me.”
— Lauren Barnes on the changes over 13 years for women playing in the NWSL
Ninety dizzying minutes of old school brilliance in which Seattle proved the classic, proud tradition of beating the new fad every single time.
— Roger Bennett, host of Men in Blazers, on the spectacle of the Sounders' Leagues Cup final win over Inter Miami
This club, this city and the fans mean so much to me. My family and I are incredibly excited to stay in Seattle and continue this incredible journey together.
— Stefan Frei announces he has re-signed with the Sounders through June 2027, when he will be 41 and in his 14th season in Seattle
With the addition of three new USL W teams around Seattle, women’s soccer players not only have a “pathway to the pros,” but choices on every level.
— Jayda Evans, Seattle Times, on the 2025 launch of USL W League clubs Salmon Bay FC, Maple Valley BigFoot and West Seattle Rhodies in the USL W League.
To see her ability to inspire so many people when she’s going through her biggest battle in life, she makes the program so proud, and we’re going to continue to support and love her every step of the way. For a 20-year-old to be in that space...We love her so much, and we want to make sure our strength is right beside her.
— Nicole Van Dyke, UW coach, on Mia Hamant's relationship to her team throughout 2025
Lumen Field is awesome. It’s been a great home for the Sounders and Reign, and maybe that will never change, but my gut tells me as I’ve traveled around the world and seen what a soccer experience can be in a stadium that’s dedicated to soccer, I think that eventually that has to be part of the answer.
— Sounders and Reign owner Adrian Hanauer expresses a desire for the clubs to have their own home
This year, we are more of the underdogs. That gives us a little more fight to overcome (and) an, excuse me, ‘(expletive) it, why not us?’ mentality...We’re not necessarily that top-ranked team (like 2021) that’s going to be running through teams. We faced a lot more challenges that we had to overcome this season, but that made us stronger in the end.
— UW goalkeeper Jadon Bowton, a 2021 College Cup holdover, on the qualities of the 2025 Huskies
When I went to Sounders games when they were playing in the USL, I loved it, but I didn’t see myself on the field. I fell in love with the atmosphere and [Emerald City Supporters] and the game. But it wasn’t something that I pictured myself being a player out there on the field...It would have made a difference if I could see that pathway for myself.
— West Seattle Rhodies co-owner Marissa Villegas on the growth of USL W League teams in Washington
This season showed how impactful it can be when youthful talent and experienced veterans come together with purpose. Our depth grew, our identity strengthened and our players, staff and supporters all played a part in that momentum.
— Reign GM Lesle Gallimore on the re-forming of the club nucleus in 2025
In this club’s history, it ranks right up there with all of the big wins that we’ve had. It’s not a championship match, so I would probably temper it with that, but it certainly was a hell of a performance...After the Club World Cup, we told the group, ‘You guys have set a standard, and that standard is here...They’re the best team in Concacaf, and we scored seven. So, let that sink in.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer on the 7-0 Leagues Cup blowout of Cruz Azul
It was always a dream to be able to invest in soccer if I was given the opportunity. Being able to do it in the Pacific Northwest where I was given so much as a player is amazing. My goal is to help the community of Spokane in its development and growth of this beautiful game.
— Sounders legend Osvaldo Alonso after joining Aequus Sports' ownership group for the Spokane Velocity and Zephyr
Mia was the heart of our program – someone who lifted up everyone around her with her joy, courage, and kindness. Even in the most difficult moments, she showed an unshakable spirit that inspired her teammates and coaches every single day.
— Washington coach Nicole Van Dyke mourning the loss of senior Mia Hamant to cancer
Messi is arguably the best player the world has ever seen, but we have Paul Rothrock.
— Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer, ahead of 2025 Leagues Cup final, praises Miami's Lionel Messi yet reminds onlookers of Seattle's homegrown talent
When you talk about Lu Barnes, she is the stalwart of the team. This team, the standard, the standard of play, the demeanor, the acceptance, the inclusion. That's all Lu. I mean, that's the only way you can put it.
— Reign GM Lesle Gallimore on the effect of Lauren Barnes on the club over 13 years
It's been a hard week, but it just shows how much this team loves each other, how much they care about each other, and how much we love Mia. Mia's been with us the whole time. She's a part of everything we do, she always will be.
— Nicole Van Dyke, UW coach, recounting a week in which her team lost Mia Hamant and yet won the Big Ten title
The ‘Next Man Up’ theory is relevant because you can never go from one end of an MLS season to another without adversity, injuries, things happening. You must have in your pipeline, on your bench, guys that can come in and do the business. We have them.
— Brian Schmetzer after a makeshift lineup wins 4-0 at the LA Galaxy in 2025
There was definitely a concern about player safety. I was running and the next day or after practice my legs were sore because of the hard surface.
— Davis High School coach Cristian Gonzalez on the state of the Yakima school's field during the drought-plagued fall 2025
The way we continued to show up for each other, to show up and pursue our goals while having heavy hearts is unbelievably incredible by this group of women. I know I speak for probably the entire nation about how proud we are of them because I know the support that has come in. We’ve gained a lot of followers along the way, and I can’t blame people because Mia was an inspiration to us. And these girls are an inspiration to a lot of people.
— Washington coach Nicole Van Dyke reflecting on her team's run to the Elite Eight while mourning Mia Hamant
It’s a group that, because of early struggles, really had to come together and figure it out. We talked about (those first five games). Can they make you stronger, or do they break you? It’s a group that really rallied around each other.
— UW coach Jamie Clark on the reason his 2025 team proved so cohesive
It’s just sort of disappointing, I suppose, to hear remarks like that, because we’ve been working with the White House Task Force since its inception. We’ve been working on security — because that’s the thing that he cites as the issue — but we’ve been working on security at the international, national, state and local level since we started.
— SEA2026 CEO Peter Tomozawa on President Trump's threats to take away World Cup game from Seattle
The fact that we have been in two finals in our first two years as a club is a testament to all involved. I’m really proud of the players and what they have done for this club and community in such a short period of time.
— Spokane Velocity coach Leigh Veidman, following a 2-0 loss to Knoxville in the 2025 USL1 final
You really don't know until it all stops to see how much cleanup you have and to see exactly what the damage is. The longer that the flood stays and sits, the more silt's going to be the buildup, and if you're talking about a playing surface, that's going to be a lot of time and effort for our field crew to get that off.
— Snohomish United's Anthony Sardon on flooding of Stocker Field from consecutive atmospheric rivers hitting Washington in December 2025
That grit and that determination, even when you might not see that much playing time, that was passed down through all these generations, and there’s a Mr. Sounder in every one of those generations.
— Stefan Frei telling the 2025 Eras of Legends about a common thread running through all Sounders eras
It's built on respect...The thing that these two clubs have done is whether it be Shields or Championships, there's not many years where either one of these teams has been in that conversation and I think that alone has made the rivalry be even more highlighted.
— Reign coach Laura Harvey on reasons their Thorns rivalry is authentic and not contrived
