FC Mulhouse of Portland finally solves the Spokane Shadow, winning their NPSL West Region quarterfinal, 2-1, at Spokane Falls CC. It's the first loss of the year for the Shadow, who had been 1-0-2 vs. FCM during the regular season. Spokane takes the on a goal from Mike Ramos, but the visitors tied it in the 10th minute and got the winner just before halftime.

Seattle's FOE Eagles fall to defending champion New York Pancyprian Freedoms, 4-2, in the semifinal round of the U.S. Open Cup in Houston. The Freedoms go on to take the championship over Kutis of St. Louis.

Before a club-record crowd of 3,657, the PDL Spokane Shadow hold their own in an exhibition against the A-League Sounders. Erik Storkson scores the game's lone goal with 15 minutes to go. Brian Ching nearly puts Spokane in front in the 50th minute, beating Preston Burpo but hitting the post.

Michelle Akers, Amy Allmann, Lori Henry and Shannon Higgins return to Seattle and a reception with hundreds of local fans, including Governor Booth Gardner, at Mercer Island Community Center. Allmann, Henry and Higgins all announce they are retiring. They and Akers, regarded as the best female player in the world, earned only $1,000 per month from U.S. Soccer.
